Under 16 successful year
Following their dramatic 3-2 victory over Corrib Celtic in the Connaught Shield, Ballyglass U-16 captain Niall Sheridan was presented with the Div 2 South shield by Michael Fox of the Mayo League, which the team captured recently.
The game itself was a difficult encounter played in wet conditions with Ballyglass having to come from 2-1 down to score an equaliser in the dying minutes to send the game into extra time. Both sides had chances to seal victory before Ryan Connolly scored the all important winner in the first half of extra time. A string of fine saves from Martin Connor kept Corrib Celtic at bay to cap a fine team performance by the home team who needed to dig deep to get the victory.
U-16 League win
Congratulations to the Ballyglass U-16 team who captured the Division 1 South league title with a 3-0 victory over Westport United B on Sunday 4th February. Matt Hamilton opened the scoring before a thunderous strike from Joe Gilroy gave the home side a 2-0 lead going into the half-time break. Westport should have reduced the deficit just before the interval but faled to make the most of a glorious opportunity.
The second half saw Ballyglass in control and the victory was sealed when substitute Killian Nestor scored with his first touch of the game to start the celebrations( pictured). Westport couldn't make the breakthrough despite some pressure late on, and indeed the home side could have extended their lead when Barry Sheridan hit the side netting in the closing moments of the game. The final whistle was greeted with celebration as Ballyglass secured the league title.
