An emotional and poignant evening took place at the home of Ballyglass F.C. on Tuesday 22nd of July when the club paid tribute to one of its founding members, Michael Keaveney. 

 

In front of a large crowd Bernadette Keaveney along with David Blood, President of the Football Association of Ireland unveiled a plaque dedicating the stadium Michael Keaveney Park.

Other distinguished guests to attend the ceremony were John Delaney CEO of the FAI, Packie Bonner, Tecnical Director, and Ray Houghton, FAI Ambassador.

In addressing the assembled crowd club Chairman, Martin O Connor paid tribute to Michael and the work he had done in the club. he stated that today the club got to honour Michael in a way that will ensure his memory and indeed his name will live on, a name that is synonymous with Ballyglass and indeed Mayo Football.

He said it was fitting to have such an esteemed dignitary as Mr. David Blood, President of the Football Association of Ireland, to perform the unveiling ceremony along with Bernadette Keaveney, and he hoped that while it was a sad day he hoped it was a proud day for the Keaveney Family too.

 

Vice Chairman Tommy Joe Walsh made a special presentation to David Blood to mark his visit to Ballyglass F.C.

 

In his speech David Blood paid tribute to Michael Keaveney and his dedication not only to Ballyglass but to Mayo football also. He also announced that there would be a special tribute to Michael in the programme for the International home match against Cyprus on October 15th in Croke Park.

 

After the unveiling ceremony a special match between the Ballyglass Legends of the 90's and the current squad took place, to entertain the large crowd.



Ballyglass F.C. would like to thank all those who helped out to prepare the grounds for the FAI visit, along with all those who helped out on the day.
