Ballyglass Babes Arrive
BALLYGLASS BABES ARRIVE
CONNAUGHT TELEGRAPH.......4
BALLYGLASS.............................2
Ballyglass made quite an impressive debut on the soccer scene on Sunday. Though beaten 4-2 by a more experienced Connaught Telegraph team, they showed that with more coaching and practice, they will be a force to be reckoned with.
Indeed with a little more steadiness in front of goal, Ballyglass would surely snatched a draw.
Played at Ballinafad College grounds, the game produced some good football.
Ballyglass had most of the play in the first half, but a brilliant display by Telegraph 'keeper Frank Burke prevented them from scoring. Then Telegraph, in two quick bursts, went ahead with goals by Eddie Bartley and Gerry McHale to give them a 2-nil lead at half-time.
Whatever words of wisdom Ballyglass coach Michael Keaveney whispered into his team's ears at half-time certainly pepped up his charges and within ten minutes they were on level terms with two brilliant goals by quicksilver Ollie Hughes. Ballyglass were now top of the world, but were finding difficulty in turning their territorial advantage into goals. Indeed it was the wily Telegraph boys who took up the running towards the end and Jeff Redmond and Johnny Mee hammered in the goals which gave them victory.
FIVE-STAR DISPLAY
The Telegraph stars were Frank Burke, Gerry McHale (a tireless midfield supremo with a great burst of speed) , Johnny Jordan, James Mee, Eddie Bartley, Tommy Rowley and Todd Burke.
Ballyglass can feel well pleased with their display. They were brilliantly served by goalkeeper Pat Heneghan, who made several fine saves. Their best defenders were M. Fadden, P. Heverin and T. Durcan.
Ollie Hughes turned in a five-star display in the Ballyglass attack and was well supported by P.J. Brett, S. Heneghan and T.J. Walsh.
