2006 Golf Classic
Basking in glorious sunshine, the beautiful surroundings of Ballinrobe Golf Course played host to the 4th Annual Ballyglass F.C. AM/AM golf classic on June 3rd. A record number of participants entered what is now an integral part of the Ballyglass Football Club calendar.
The winning team led by Ballinrobe Golf Club Captain Ray Darcy along with Connie Darcy, Jim Walsh and John McNulty (pictured above) claimed the top spot with an impressive score of 107. In second place were Tom Mellotte, James Donovan, Patsy Casey and Anthony Hennelly with a score of 105, while third place went to Ray Prendergast, Declan Prendergast, Charlie Muldoon and Junior Prendergast with a score of 104.
The winning ladies team, with a score of 97, was Pat McDermott, Catherine O Toole, Mary Gibbons and Peggy Butler.
The longest ladies drive went to Julie Loftus while Mel Tansy won the mens. Nearest the pin went to John Haugh.
At the presentation in the clubhouse MC Ivan Carroll welcomed everyone and invited Ballyglass F.C. club chairman Johnnie Vahey to address the large crowd in attendance. Johnnie thanked the 49 teams that took part; the main sponsors M&C Financial Services and Premier Estates Maloney. He also thanked all the tee sponsors with a total of 115 boxes being sold. Johnnie commended the green keepers for having the course in excellent condition, to the bar and catering staff for their service throughout the day and a special word of thanks to Ballinrobe Golf Course manager John McMahon for all his help on the day.
Johnnie concluded by thanking the committee of Ballyglass Football Club for all the hard work and effort in making the day such a huge success and especially Ivan Carroll, Ray Prendergast and Joe Sheridan for their contribution.
Ivan then invited Ballinrobe Golf Club captain and winning team member, Ray Darcy to speak. Ray congratulated Ballyglass for once again running a very successful AM/AM and he stated that with the likes of Joe Sheridan behind the wheel he was sure that there would be many more to follow. He thanked his own team and once again thanked all the sponsors of tee boxes and main sponsors M&C Financial Services and Premier Estates Maloney for their continued support of the event.
